Taylor Swift’s website briefly displays 'Toy Story'-style countdown

A mysterious countdown briefly appeared onTaylor Swift'sofficial website April 30 — and it was enough to send fans into full detective mode.

USA TODAY

The clock, which was live for roughly 10 minutes before being taken down, counted down to 1 p.m. CT / 2 p.m. ET on May 2. Even more intriguing: the background featured unmistakable Toy Story-inspired blue and white clouded imagery, prompting immediate speculation about a potential crossover or soundtrack announcement.

Fans quickly flooded social media with theories.

"Toy story x taylor swift is truly going to be the death of me tbh,"@saamcarr wrote, while@guiltyasea commented, "COUNTDOWN ON TAYLOR SWIFT'S WEBSITE." A third tweet from@arialuxxehad the countdown next to a recent outing photo of the singer wearing a dress with the same sky blue shade said, "Taylor swift what are you up to."

The timing is particularly notable. Toy Story 5 is set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026 — the same date that marks the 20th anniversary of Swift's debut single, "Tim McGraw," released June 19, 2006.

There is no official confirmation linking Swift to the film and her team did not respond to an email requesting comment.

If the tease does point to a film collaboration, it would hardly be new territory for Swift. Across her career, she has built an extensive resume writing and recording songs for major screen projects.

Her earliest entry came with "Crazier" for "Hannah Montana: The Movie," followed by "Today Was a Fairytale" tied to "Valentine's Day." She later contributed two standout tracks, "Safe & Sound" and "Eyes Open," to "The Hunger Games," with the former earning a Grammy for best song written for visual media.

Swift teamed with Zayn Malik for "I Don’t Wanna Live Forever" from "Fifty Shades Darker," co-wrote "Beautiful Ghosts" with Andrew Lloyd Webber for "Cats," and delivered the haunting "Carolina" for "Where the Crawdads Sing." She also penned "Only the Young" for her Netflix documentary Miss Americana.

New York Mets' Luis Robert Jr. hits the injured list with disc herniation

NEW YORK (AP) — The depletedNew York Metstook another hit Thursday when center fielder Luis Robert Jr. was placed on the 10-day injured list with lumbar spine disc herniation.

Associated Press

Robert, 28, hasn’t played since the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies due to what the team said was lower back tightness. AnMRI administered on Wednesdayrevealed the injury. The IL move was retroactive to April 27.

Manager Carlos Mendoza said Robert had an epidural and was instructed to rest for seven to 10 days. He said team doctors were hopeful Robert could return shortly thereafter.

“It’s just frustrating from both ends — for Luis, for us,” Mendoza said before the series finale againstthe Washington Nationals. “But we’ve got to get him back right.”

The IL stint is the 10th since 2021 for Robert, who has previously been sidelined by right hip, right knee, left wrist and left hamstring issues as well as blurred vision. He has played more than 110 games just once — in 2023, when he finished 12th in the AL MVP voting after hitting 38 homers for the Chicago White Sox.

The Mets acquired Robert from the Chicago White Sox in exchange for Luisangel Acuña in January in hopes the former Gold Glove Award winner could help improve their up-the-middle defense. He was limited to back field duty for most of spring training in an attempt to keep him healthy for the regular season.

Robert had a homer and five RBIs in the first two games of the season but has just five hits in his last 38 at-bats dating back to April 13 to drop his season average to .224.

“He’s super frustrated — yesterday and this morning, when he got the news — because he’s done everything we’re asking him to do,” Mendoza said.

Robert is the second Mets player to hit the injured list with a lumbar spine ailment this week and the third opening day position player on the shelf. Starting pitcher Kodai Senga (lumbar spine inflammation) went on the 15-day injured list Tuesday.

Shortstop Francisco Lindor (left calf) and first baseman/designated hitter Jorge Polanco (left Achilles, right wrist) are also on the injured list for the Mets, who began Thursday with baseball’s worst record at 10-20.

To replace Robert, the Mets recalled infielder Eric Wagaman from Triple-A Syracuse. The club also recalled pitcher Austin Warren from Syracuse and designated veteran pitcher Carl Edwards Jr. for assignment. Edwards allowed one run in six innings of relief over two appearances this week.

Thanks to Cam York's OT winner, Flyers eliminate Penguins in Game 6

Cam York scored at 17:32 of overtime, propelling the Philadelphia Flyers into the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 1-0 victory over the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins in Game 6 on Wednesday.

Field Level Media

After winning the first three games of the best-of-seven series, the Flyers lost Games 4 and 5 and struggled to find their offensive footing for much of Game 6. However, York's first career playoff goal came at the perfect time, sending Philadelphia into a second-round matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes.

Following a faceoff win in the offensive zone, York unleashed a wrist shot from the right point that got through traffic, hit off the right post, and skipped past Arturs Silovs.

"The way that the game was going, we knew it was going to be a greasy (goal)," York said. "Just wanted to get it to the net, and it found a hole."

The Pittsburgh goalie finished with 31 saves, while Dan Vladar turned aside 42 shots for his second shutout of the series.

"Both goalies played unbelievable," Penguins coach Dan Muse said. "Right now, it's raw. At no point did I expect for our season to be over. ... I loved this group. They were awesome, from start to finish."

Silovs had big stops on Owen Tippett and Porter Martone in the first period. Both teams had one power play in the session, but neither team was able to dent the scoreboard.

Pittsburgh had another man advantage in the early portion of the second period, but Vladar and the Flyers held firm.

Shortly thereafter, Matvei Michkov skated in on a breakaway, only to have his wrister denied by Silovs. Michkov nearly scored again on the same shift, but Silovs beat him to the post.

Philadelphia opened the third period with a power play after Kris Letang punched Travis Konecny at the end of the second period. But the Flyers' man advantage was uneventful and the game remained scoreless.

With about 12 minutes left in regulation, Vladar made a confident stop against Egor Chinakhov on an offensive rush. A couple of minutes later, Silovs made a flashy glove save on Michkov.

Pittsburgh pressured late in the third period. Tommy Novak hit the post with a shot from distance, and then Vladar denied Bryan Rust from close range.

"(Vladar) was unbelievable for us tonight," York said. "Just so many grade-A chances they had that he stood tall for us. I can't say enough about him."

The Penguins had the advantage early in overtime with Evgeni Malkin getting a great scoring opportunity from the slot. Shortly thereafter, a wild scrum in front of the Philadelphia net created some tense moments before the play was blown dead.

Late in overtime, Martone's shot into an open net was somehow stopped by Silovs' stick that was lying on the ice. However, the Flyers won the game less than a minute later.

Soccer-Palestinian FA chief hits out at Israeli federation VP at FIFA Congress

76th FIFA Congress

VANCOUVER, April 30 (Reuters) - Palestinian soccer federation President Jibril Rajoub refused to stand alongside Israel FA Vice-President Basim Sheikh Suliman in a heated moment at the FIFA Congress on Thursday.

Both men were called to the stand by ‌FIFA President Gianni Infantino but Rajoub declined to be brought closer to Arab-Israeli Suliman.

Infantino put his hand on Rajoub's arm ‌and invited him with a gesture to come closer to Suliman, but in vain.

Asked what Rajoub said when he refused, Palestinian FA Vice-President Susan Shalabi, who was in the room, told Reuters: "I cannot shake the hand of someone the Israelis have brought to whitewash their fascism and genocide. We are suffering."

Israel has denied committing genocide in Gaza.

Infantino then took the stand and said: "We will work together, President Rajoub, Vice-President Suliman. Let's work together to give hope to the children. These are complex matters."

Speaking to Reuters after the Congress ended, Shalabi said Infantino's attempt to have Suliman and Rajoub shake hands showed ‌little consideration for the Palestinian FA chief's speech, in which he made yet another plea for Israeli clubs not to base teams in the West Bank settlements.

"To be put in a position where to have a handshake after everything that was said, this negates the whole purpose of the speech that the general (Rajoub) was giving," she said.

"He spent like 15 minutes trying to explain to everyone how the rules matter, how this could easily become a precedent where the rights of member associations are violated with impudence, and then we'll just wrap this under the carpet. It was absurd."

Rajoub said: "From my side, I still respect and follow the legal procedure but I think it’s time to understand ‌that Israel should be sanctioned. The double standard policy should stop.

"I refused to shake hands. Sport is sport… for me that should be respected, but if the other side is representing a criminal like Bibi (Benjamin Netanyahu) and speaking on behalf of Bibi as if Bibi is Mother Teresa, how can I shake hands or have a photo with such a man?

"I think Gianni has the right to try to bridge gaps and bring people together but I think maybe he does not understand or does not know the deep suffering of the Palestinian ‌people."

Last week, the PFA appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against FIFA's decision not to sanction Israel over clubs based in West Bank settlements.

The PFA has long argued that clubs based in settlements in the West Bank – territory Palestinians seek as part of a future state – should not compete in leagues run ‌by the Israel Football Association.

FIFA said last month it would take no action against the IFA or Israeli clubs, citing the unresolved legal status of the West Bank under public international law.

As they were leaving the Vancouver Convention Centre, Rajoub and Shalabi were targeted by protesters who were demanding that FIFA should ban Iran from the World Cup on the grounds that the team, they say, ‌represent the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

"Does that convince you that you have to support IRGC... because you're having a problem with Israel," one protester asked Rajoub.

"We're not supporting anyone, we just want the support of the international community," Rajoub said.

MLB power rankings: Phillies can't stop the bleeding as NL East hole grows

Chuckle at theNew York Mets, if that's your thing. Gawk at the five-car pileup that is theBoston Red Soxorganization, which decided to kneecap its paragon of stability.

USA TODAY Sports

Yet if you're looking for the messiest big-market failure as April draws to a close, thePhiladelphia Philliesmight fill the bill.

They didn't lose a dozen games in a row, like the Mets, just 10. Yet a one-night reprieve gave way to perhaps their most discouraging setback yet - a 6-2 loss to the front-running Atlanta Braves in which starter Aaron Nola was very bad and the lineup utterly powerless to counteract lefty Chris Sale.

Nola has a $172 million guaranteed deal and they can't simply make his 6.03 ERA go awaylike they did Taijuan Walker. And in a season of league-wide parity, they now own the biggest deficit in the major leagues - 10 ½ games behind the Braves - and dropped another 10 spots in USA TODAY Sports' power rankings.

A look at our updated rankings:

1.Los Angeles Dodgers(-)

2.New York Yankees(+1)

  • Luis Gil was sent to the minors, but Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón are on the comeback trail.

3. Atlanta Braves (+1)

  • Only the 1997 team can top their 20-9 record at this stage.

4.San Diego Padres(-2)

  • Lucas Giolito finally finds a home in diminished Padres rotation.

5.Chicago Cubs(+6)

  • Ten-game win streak halted by Dodgers, who did not need any special rules to do so.

6.Cincinnati Reds(-)

  • Losing Eugenio Suárez to the IL hurts less when Sal Stewart remains unstoppable.

7.Pittsburgh Pirates(-)

  • Konnor Griffin hits first homer on night Paul Skenes threatens to throw perfect game. Exciting times!

8. Detroit Tigers (+1)

  • Spencer Torkelson homers in five straight games, first Tiger to do so since legendary Marcus Thames in 2008.

9. Tampa Bay Rays (+6)

  • Junior Caminero's two-homer night included drives of 435, 450 feet.

10.Arizona Diamondbacks(-)

  • Very quietly, Mike Soroka off to 4-0, 2.60 ERA start.

11.Milwaukee Brewers(-6)

  • In a three-way tie for last with 19 homers.

12. Cleveland Guardians (-4)

  • Angel Martínez's first career multi-homer game comes with a pair of blasts off Max Scherzer.

13.Seattle Mariners(-)

  • Kade Anderson watch: One earned run, 30 strikeouts in 18 ⅔ innings at Class AA.

14.Miami Marlins(-)

  • Win every other day and it's real easy to build big leads over the Phillies and Mets.

15. Texas Rangers (+1)

  • Don't look now, but Josh Jung has a .920 OPS.

16. Toronto Blue Jays (+1)

  • Pitching the eighth inning means Jeff Hoffman loses his light show intro.

17. New York Mets (+1)

  • Move up a spot only because the Phillies are more embarrassing.

18. Baltimore Orioles (+1)

  • Kyle Bradish averaging nearly three walks per start.

19. Athletics (+1)

  • Have won four consecutive series away from Yolo County.

20.St. Louis Cardinals

  • Outfield prospect Joshua Baez has six homers at Class AAA.

21. Los Angeles Angels (-)

  • Catcher Logan O'Hoppe suffers wrist fracture.

22. Philadelphia Phillies (-10)

  • What if they're simply this bad?

23. Boston Red Sox (-1)

  • Alex Cora their first manager to get fired during the season since Jimy Williams in 2001.

24. Minnesota Twins (-)

  • Have lost nine of 10, perhaps an inevitable bit of regression.

25. San Francisco Giants (-)

  • Daniel Susac's injury puts onus on Patrick Bailey to hit, once again.

26. Washington Nationals (+1)

  • Foster Griffin tosses seven shutout innings and looks more and more like a real find.

27. Houston Astros (-1)

  • Christian Walker's revival (seven homers) one of the few bright spots.

28. Kansas City Royals (-)

  • It took more than 100 at-bats, but Bobby Witt has himself a home run.

29. Colorado Rockies (-)

  • Overworked bullpen prompts Chase Dollander's first start of season - and he pitches seven shutout innings.

30.Chicago White Sox (-)

  • Noah Schultz strikes out eight in third major league start..

'The Rookie' character's death in Season 8 has fans, actor conflicted

Warning: The following contains major spoilers for Season 8, Episode 17 of "The Rookie."

USA TODAY

Monica Stevens finally got her comeuppance on the latest episode of "The Rookie." But not all fans are celebrating.

The crooked lawyer, played by Bridget Regan, on ABC's police procedural series, died in the penultimate episode of Season 8 in a dramatic cliffhanger ahead of next week's finale.

After double-crossing dangerous criminals, the corrupt attorney met her demise as she was assassinated during a rideshare trip to the airport, where she hoped to leave Los Angeles and avoid federal agents.

"I think you missed the turn," Monica told the driver, who replied, "No, I didn't." She is taken to an abandoned site at night, where her final request of "not in the face" is honored, and she is fatally shot twice in the chest.

Bridget Regan as Monica Stevens on Season 8 Episode 18 of "The Rookie," which aired on April 27, 2026.

Monica Stevens heartbreaking goodbye with Wesley Evers

Before her fatal shooting, she visited ex-fiancé Wesley Evers (Shawn Ashmore), the only person Monica cared to say goodbye to. The two shared a devastating exchange with Monica knowing it would be their last.

"I know I did exactly whatever I wanted, and I own every choice that I made, and yet I don't know how I got here," she told Wesley.

Monica asked him if he ever loved the person she used to be, to which he replied: "She was terrifying and radiant and razor sharp. Of course, I loved her. Everybody did."

Despite her immoral decisions on the series, fans found her ending ironically bittersweet, withone X user writing,"Never thought I would feel bad for Monica but I do. Monica really loved Wesley and you saw the person she used to be before he broke her heart. Her saying goodbye before she met her end was really heartbreaking."

"omg Monica i wanted u gone but im sad rn,"another user wrote on X.

Bridget Regan is 'sad to see Monica go'

Regan, who joined "The Rookie" in a recurring role in Season 5, said she will miss playing the morally questionable antagonist, tellingTV Insiderthat "I am sad to see Monica go."

She recounted her phone call with showrunner Alexi Hawley, where, as usual, she worried "that it's the call of death."

"But truly, I was not surprised. I was thrilled that she lasted as long as she did. If you play with fire, as long as she has, eventually you’re going to get burned. And as I said to Alexi and everybody, I was like, she’s not on her ninth life. She’s on her 37th," she told the outlet.

She said it was "fair enough" for the writers to kill the character, who already had survived multiple assassinations and prison time, and "being thrown in a wood chipper."

"When her number was finally up, I wasn’t surprised. I thought, fair enough. She’s had an amazing run, four years on this show. I’m only filled with gratitude," she continued. "But what I was surprised by was just how incredibly sad I was for her. Not that she died, but that she never truly flipped, that she actually succumbed to the dark side and couldn’t find her way back."

The Season 8 finale of "The Rookie" is set to air Monday, May 4. The series has been renewed for Season 9, which, according toDeadline, makes ABC's third-longest-running drama series after "NYPD Blue" and "Grey's Anatomy."
